We are proud to have been rated one of safest, most spectacular, and most remote hut systems in The Colorado Hut to Hut Guide by Brian Litz.
Hinsdale Haute Route is Colorado's highest hut system, located in the San Juan Mountains, along the Continental Divide high above the friendly little town of Lake City.
Currently Hinsdale Haute Route offers two yurts. The route is generally safe from any avalanche danger. Most of the hut system is near timberline, and offers vistas of the Weminuche Wilderness to the southwest, five 14,000' peaks to west and northwest, as well as views of the La Garita Mountains to the east.
The Colorado Trail Friends Yurt and the Jon Wilson Memorial Yurt are both currently operational on a year round basis. The site for the Rambouillet Yurt is moving north and up the hill to a spot with excellent views of Uncompaghre Peak and the Upper Lake Fork Valley. A new deck is being built at the new Rambouillet Yurt site and a new yurt is being constructed.
Aspects of our new web site are still under construction. Thank you for your patience.
